Discovering the water source
The fortuitous discovery of a natural thermal spring on the banks of the Rhône led to the development of Les Bains de Lavey.
Construction of the hotel
The first Les Bains de Lavey hotel is built, marking the beginning of the reception of spa visitors.
Construction of the chapel
The Les Bains de Lavey chapel was built between 1842 and 1844, adding a spiritual dimension to the site.
Construction of the thermal baths building
Construction of the first thermal baths building (now the Medical Centre and Wellness Center). Individual thermal baths fed by a water catchment at a temperature of 42 degrees.
Birth of Les Bains de Lavey SA
The creation of a public limited company (SA), formalising the operation of Les Bains de Lavey.
Purchase by the State of Vaud
The Canton of Vaud acquired the Les Bains de Lavey site after several years of private management.
Opening of the first 2 pools
Opening of the first pools thanks to a deep borehole, still in use today.
Site taken over by Eurothermes
Eurothermes took over the site and transformed the thermal baths into a place dedicated to relaxation and thermoludism thanks to major renovations.
Renovation of bedrooms
Following a complete refurbishment in 2016, the hotel’s rooms are upgraded every year, offering visitors a more modern and stylish setting.

Once you have arrived at the complex :
If you wish to access the baths directly, enter through the Main Entrance to the Thermal Baths (shown in blue on the map). This is where you’ll find the reception, shop, changing rooms and access to the pools.
If you have a reservation at the La Table des Bains hotel or restaurant, take the Wellness Center, hotel and restaurant access footbridge, located slightly to the left. This will take you directly to the Grand Hôtel des Bains and its wellness areas.

FAQ Grand Hôtel des Bains
Access is not recommended to people with a history of cardiovascular disease or to pregnant women without prior medical advice. The baths are only open to children aged 4 and over (proof of age required). Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older).
Children are admitted from the age of 4 (proof required) and must be accompanied by an adult to access the thermal baths.
We restrict access to young children because many customers come to the Spa to relax, which is not necessarily compatible with the presence of young children. What’s more, the depth of the pools and the infrastructure do not allow us to cater for them in optimum safety conditions.
