The therapeutic benefits of Lavey water
Lavey thermal spring water comes from rainwater that fell almost 8,000 years ago.
From the rain to its resurgence as thermal water, the water undergoes a complex journey: it descends into the depths of the earth between geological layers, circulates between limestone and granite, reaches high temperatures and then rises to the surface along faults, loaded with all the minerals it has encountered on its long journey. Lavey water belongs to the sodium chloride sulphate class, and is particularly rich in sulphur, calcium, lithium, potassium and magnesium.
At a depth of 200 metres, water gushes out at a temperature of 62°C, at a rate of 420 litres per minute. A second well, located at a depth of 600 metres and in operation since 2000, supplies water at 67°C at a flow rate of 1,330 litres per minute. Les Bains de Lavey boasts the hottest thermal water in Switzerland.
Lavey water - a source of energy
This is a significant advantage, as the entire spa complex uses a natural, non-polluting resource to cover most of its energy and heating needs.
After a heat recovery process, the water is cooled and injected into the pools at a temperature of 45°C, maintaining a constant temperature of between 33 and 36°C, which is ideal for bathers.
The benefits of Lavey water
Its neutral ph, isotonicity, high mineral content and high trace element content give Lavey water recognised therapeutic properties. In fact, the physico-chemical composition of Lavey thermal spring water gives it special virtues:
- Soothing (calcium, magnesium)
- Antioxidant (magnesium, molybdenum)
- Healing (sodium, potassium sulphur, calcium)
- Regenerative (manganese, molybdenum, hydro-arsenite)
- Anti-ageing (manganese, strontium, magnesium)
- Anti-inflammatory (sulphur, bromide)
- Anti-allergic (sodium)
- Antiseptic (fluoride, chloride)

The effects of thermal water
The skin is permeable to water, so whether you’re a visitor to the thermal baths or a patient at Lavey Médical, you’ll experience a number of beneficial effects.
Physical effects
The body feels lighter in the water, and the load on joints and muscles is greatly reduced. Movement in warm water is not only pleasant, it also activates connective tissue, which becomes more elastic thanks to the heat. The temperature of the water causes vascular dilation in the arms and legs, which activates the metabolism.
Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, thermal water is recommended for treating joint ailments such as rheumatism, osteoarthritis and gout, which reduce mobility and cause pain.
Chemical effects
Trace elements penetrate the skin barrier and have a profound effect on ailing organisms, boosting their immune defences. Deliciously warm and relaxing, Lavey water stimulates the production of collagen and keratin.
In dermatology, it is its healing, soothing and anti-allergic properties that are highlighted.
Psychological effects
The special properties of thermal water and its relaxing properties, combined with the beauty of the Lavey site, make it an alternative medicine that is perfectly suited to resourcefulness, personal development and escape from everyday stress.
Contraindications
The only absolute contraindications to the practice of spa treatments are non-stabilised heart conditions, such as recent myocardial infarction. Pregnant women should consult their doctor.
